Normally all those lights are lit up because the car isn’t on but the power is. However, given it is a 200K mile BMW.... I am pretty sure that is it’s default state.

Impressive, my friend’s Mini needed a
new engine at 24k

Aren’t the first generation supposed to be the most solid versions?

Ours made it to 125,000. It was my wife’s car but I miss it.

Nice! Any major issues?
I’m at 178k on our 2015 R53 . I have an intermittent CEL along with the EML . Going to get it looked at along with new struts next month. It is also going through about a quart of oil in a month.

Here’s to hoping my 2013 makes it that long. At 80k now and haven’t had any repairs in over 2 years.

Mine crossed 156,900 this morning. I’m a bit concerned by the noise its making off throttle in 2nd but other than that it’s all good.

time for a new one

I knew someone is gonna say this!
Anyhow, it has none of those lights on when the engine is running, it is not in the photo. It basically has no engine codes that worry me, I do have a P0171 (lean mixture). I’m assuming it is coz the engine demands more fuel than what is defined in the ECU. I’m know more once I log the AFR using INPA.
Edit: I make 50% more boost now than stock.

Well, everything in the cabin squeaks but thats about it. I get an intermittent SRS light than I’m looking into. I also got a lean mixture CEL today but that’s probably coz of the smaller SC pulley. I’ll know more once I connect it to INPA.

They are, from what I've read and heard.

I’m guessing it was a 2nd gen? Post 2008?

What sorta?
![]() 12/27/2018 at 20:03 |

Nice! Minis had a bad rep due to the 2nd gen shenanigans, looks like the 3rd gens are much better.

And really only the early R56S models. We had a NA 2008 base that had some problems but it was really pretty well sorted after a few trips to the dealer for simple stuff. It never had any engine problems at all and was really just fine when we traded it for the 13 at 95k.

That's unfortunate...or as some would say, part of normal maintenance.

It’s a strange scrapey whirry noise. It seems to exist in all gears but is most prominent in 2nd. It’s definitely a gearbox kind of noise. I’m going to check the fluid and level before ice racing season and if that’s not it I’m just gonna send it and wait for it to pop.

The Midlands 5 speed is said to be a bit fragile anyways. I'm assuming you will get a RWD car then?
![]() 12/27/2018 at 23:27 |

It’s very fragile. It’s honestly impressive that mine has made it all the way to almost 160k.
My next daily driver is going to be a BRZ but if I can I would like to keep the Mini around and strip and cage it for track use.
